Sudden onset of adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in a long standing chronic haemodialysis patient with lung calcification.

چکیده
Patients with end-stage renal failure treated by haemodialysis have a marked increased risk for cardiovascular death. These patients have both an accelerated form of arteriosclerosis with calcification in atheromatous intimal plaques and also medial calcification due to Monckeberg’s. In extreme cases soft tissue calcification can lead to calciphylaxis resulting in skin ulceration, amputation and death. The present case describes a less frequently encountered problem due to vascular and soft tissue calcification, which presents management challenges to the renal physician.

Validity of Spo2/Fio2 Ratio in Detection of Acute Lung Injury and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Introduction: One ofdiagnostic criteria for Acute Lung Injury and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome is pao2/fio2 (PF) ratio 300 for ALI or 200 for ARDS. This criteria requires invasive arterial sampling. Measurement of Spo2/Fio2 (SF) ratio by pulseoximetry may be a reliable non invasive alternative to the PF ratio. Methods and Materials: In a cross sectional study we enrolled 105 sample o...
متن کاملSerial assessment of pulmonary microvascular permeability in a patient developing the adult respiratory distress syndrome.
Serial measurements of lung extravascular accumulation of 113mIndium-transferrin were made in a patient with acute respiratory failure during the development of the adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Abnormality of this index of pulmonary microvascular permeability antedated radiological change and appeared to predict the onset of frank ARDS.
متن کاملAcute Respiratory Distress Syndrome in a Patient With Suspected Influenza: A Case Report
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a clinical syndrome consisting of tachypnea, refractory hypoxemia, and diffuse opacities on chest radiographs after infection or trauma which ultimately leads to respiratory failure. The principles of treatment are based on patient care in ICU, mechanical ventilation and medical treatments. By using lower plateau, less tidal volume, higher positive ...
متن کاملHypersensitivity Reaction and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome in Pyrethroid Poisoning and Role of Steroid Therapy
Background: Pyrethroids are generally of low toxicity to humans, but in suicidal poisonings which are usually associated with ingestion of high doses, they lead to severe systemic effects. Case Report: A 30-year old woman presented to emergency department with a history of intentional ingestion of about 15 mL of prallethrin around 3 days earlier. She complained of shortness of breath along with...
متن کاملAcute respiratory distress syndrome associated with hypercalcemia without parathyroid disorders.
Acute lung injury (ALI) can be induced by various causes. The occurrence of ALI associated with hypercalcemia has rarely been reported and the mechanisms are unknown. In the present study, we reported the clinical manifestation and pathological findings in patients with hypercalcemia and metastatic calcification. In addition, we addressed the possible mechanism and the preventive strategy for t...
